The learning approach key application:
The deliberate alteration of human behaviour
The mechanisms mof classical conditioning, operant conditioning and socail learning theory can be used to deliberately change our behaviour. WE have seen how we learn through these mechanisms. This ections considers treatments - deliberately changing a person's behaviour for his/her own good. However, we have to consider who decides what behaviour should be changed and when.
For example:
Explain how classical conditioning can be used to treat phobias by systematic desensitisation (p19 revision guide) or aversion therapy/flooding. Outline and then evaluate those techniques (p29 revision guide).
Explain how a token economy programme could be used, using operant conditioning techniques , in mental health institutions and prisons. Individuals recieve token when they behave in the desired manner to encourage them to repeat the behaviour. The tokens can then be exchanged for a treat so they ar epositive reinforcers. Use the document and p29-30 revision guide to outline and evaluate this.
Explain how modelling can be used to promote pro-social behaviour or reduce aggressive behaviour. Talk about SLT and Bandura. Then evaluate this (p22-23 revision guide).
